Welcome to Retro Emulator. By using the app you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
Retro Emulator is a retro game console emulation app that lets you play your own game files (ROMs), save your progress, customize controls, and optionally share games and chat with friends.
The app does NOT include or distribute copyrighted games. The only exception is the Doom shareware episode and Freedoom, included out of the box because their rights holders have publicly confirmed they are freely distributable (see Settings → Open Source Licenses for details). For everything else, you decide which files to import, and you are solely responsible for having the legal right to use them (for example, backups of games you already own). We do not encourage or facilitate piracy in any way.
You can optionally create a nickname to use the friends, chat, and game-sharing features. You are responsible for actions taken under your nickname. You can delete your account at any time from Settings -- your nickname will become free for someone else to use.
When sharing a game with a friend, the file is transferred directly between your devices (P2P). You're responsible for only sharing content you have the right to share.
The app also includes an "Explorer" tab with optional network tools (SSH, SFTP, FTP, SMB, Telnet, MQTT, Wake-on-LAN, local HTTP server), mainly useful for transferring your own games from other devices on your local network. You are solely responsible for the credentials and servers you connect to using these tools.
Some features (unlimited network tools, cloud save sync, sending saves to friends) require a Premium subscription (monthly or annual) or a one-time purchase (lifetime). Payments are handled by Apple through your App Store account: the amount is charged to your account when you confirm the purchase, and subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from your device Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. If a free trial period is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you purchase a paid subscription.
Some optional features (RetroAchievements, cover art from GitHub) rely on third-party services not operated by IT-Systems, subject to their own terms.
You may not: use the app to distribute copyrighted content without authorization, harass or impersonate other users (see also our reserved-nickname policy), or attempt to breach the security of the Service.
The Service is provided "as is". IT-Systems is not responsible for the compatibility of specific games, nor for data loss resulting from use of the app -- we recommend regularly backing up your save states.
We may update these terms occasionally. Significant changes will be announced within the app itself.
